Death is a beautiful ending of a man’s life, for it is what gives life a meaning. Today we shall see some not so known facts related to death. Just read on.

Thanatology is the academic, and often scientific, study of death among human beings. It investigates the circumstances surrounding a person’s death, the grief experienced by the deceased’s loved ones, and larger social attitudes towards death such as ritual and memorialization. It is primarily an interdisciplinary study, frequently undertaken by professionals in nursing, psychology, sociology, psychiatry, and social work. It also describes bodily changes that accompany death and the after-death period.

There are more than 200 understatements regarding death. These include the statements “to be in Abraham’s bosom,“ “sleep with the Tribbles,“ as well as “just add maggots.“

The cause of death in all scenarios is one’s failure to breath or the lack of oxygen. This is caused by muscle spasms, which others consider as the agonal phase. Agonal was derived from the Greek word agon, which means contest.

The digestive enzymes in your body will begin to eat your organs within the first three days after death. Afterwards, the bacteria in your gut will feed on ruptured cells. This process will release sufficient noxious gas that will cause the body to bloat and the eyes to bulge.

Promessa, a Swedish company, claimed that it can decompose the body within six to twelve months after death. This is supported by the ecological burial method that the firm promotes. The method uses liquid nitrogen to freeze-dry the body and pulverize with high-frequency vibrations. Afterwards, the company will seal the body in a cornstarch coffin.

A certain group in India known as the Zoroastrian leave the bodies of dead people in the open and let the vultures eat the bodies.

Queen Victoria wanted to be buried wearing the bathrobe of her deceased husband Prince Albert while holding a plaster cast.

Families living in Madagascar dig up the bones of deceased loved ones and parade these within the village. This ritual or ceremony is known as the Famadihana. After the ceremony, the bones will be sealed in a new shroud and will be reburied. The used shroud will be received by the newly married and childless couple in the family and it will be used to cover the bed of the couple.

There are times under the right humidity and temperature, the fatty tissues of a buried corpse will become a substance that has the same appearance with a soap. This substance is known as the grave wax or the adipocerous. The formation of the substance depends on the presence of a damp and cold environment as well as the lack of oxygen. When this happens, the saponification will continue for hundreds of years.

During the 9th-century Europe, there were numerous anecdotal evidences, which proved that some illed individuals were mistakenly announced dead by health officials. Their bodies were laid out in health facilities specifically constructed for corpses.

There are many anecdotal references to people being declared dead by physicians and then ‘coming back to life’, sometimes days later in their own coffin, or when embalming procedures are just about to begin. Owing to significant scientific advancements in the Victorian era, some people in Britain became obsessively worried about living after being declared dead.

Do you know that the statistics of people who commit suicide in the City of New York are higher than those that are murdered.

Turritopsis nutricula is a small (5mm) species of jellyfish which uses transdifferentiation to become younger after sexual reproduction. This cycle can repeat indefinitely, rendering it biologically immortal. It originates from the Caribbean sea, but has now spread around the world.

Death messengers, in former times, were those who were dispatched to spread the news that an inhabitant of their city or village had died. They were to wear unadorned black and go door to door with the message, “You are asked to attend the funeral of the departed __________ at (time, date, and place).” This was all they were allowed to say, and were to move on to the next house immediately after uttering the announcement. This tradition persisted in some areas to as late as the mid 19th Century.

A death rattle is a gurgling or rattle-like noise produced shortly before or after death by the accumulation of excessive respiratory secretions in the throat. Those who are dying may lose their ability to swallow, resulting in such an accumulation. While death rattle is a strong indication that someone is near death, it can also be produced by other problems that cause interference with the swallowing reflex, for instance, brain injuries.

Sometimes, after an organism has died, small movements of the limbs (a twitch of a finger or even a whole leg moving) can be observed. This phenomenon, known as postmortem spasm, can be observed in human cadavers as well as smaller organisms that have died.

The theists, atheists and the saint story:

Once the head of a village invited a saint to deliver a sermon. But he wasn’t willing. After persistent coaxing, the saint agreed. The msg was spread across the village, and a big crowd came and sat waiting for the saint.

The saint arrived and asked just one question ” How many of you believe in God”. Non raised their hand. He said, “well, if all of you are atheist, what’s my job here?”.. and walked away.

The village head was disturbed, thinking that the saint was offended. He ordered the villagers to raise hands if the saint asked the same question again. The saint was requested to kindly visit again.

The saint came, and asked the crowd “how many of you believe in God”? As planned, all the members of the crowd raised their hands. Seeing that he responded “If all of you are believers, then what’s my job here?” and walked away..

This time even the villagers were disturbed. So they planned out, that next time half of us will raise our hands. The saint was invited again..

As usual, the saint arrived, and asked ” so this time how many of you believe in God?. Bingo.. as per the master plan.. only half of the crowd raised their hands. The saint responded.. “well, the half that believes try to convince the other half that doesn’t. What’s my job here?” and walked away..

=================

Did this saint just walked away? Or did he deliver a sermon? He did. Profoundly.. indeed. He delivered the lesson.. that people in general are neither 100% believers, nor 100 % atheists. Within each of us, there is a voice that “believes”, and there is another that “doubts”.

There are various reasons why you may want to change the domain name of a website that already existed. it could be because:

Your domain name got expired, and someone else registered it.

You don’t like your current domain name.

You have a domain that better describes your contents, or its a better keyword for search engine positioning.

In that case, if you are going to continuing with your existing web host, you don’t have to copy the contents to a new place. Here is a simple way telling how to do it.

Point the DNS of the domain name(in case you are using an external registrar like godaddy.com or name.com) to the name server provided to you by your hosting provider(for ex: yahoo). If you don’t know what your name server is, find it out by searching your current domain at http://who.is

Go to your control panel in hosting account, and add this new domain. Point this new domain change to the folder in which you kept the index page of the current website.

Now you can reach your homepage with the new domain name. But note that if you have recently changed the name server, it may take up to 72 hrs for the DNS to resolve. So be patient if things don’t work out straight away.

Once the DNS is updated, and you can reach your homepage, you have to check whether you are able to access other pages within the site. If you had used absolute URLs, you have to change the links to relative links. If they were set originally as relative links, then it should work perfectly fine.

Now you may want to redirect the existing traffic to your current website to the new domain name. This can be done by various ways. The best way is to setup a htacess redirect. This step, probably is for somewhat experienced users. Have patience, you may have to research a bit before doing it. In case you are using a good web host like hostgator or bluehost, ask the support to do the redirect job for you.

A few amazing quick facts about this wonderful plant called Hemp

Hemp has a higher quality fiber than wood fiber. Far fewer caustic chemicals are required to make paper from hemp than from trees. Hemp paper does not turn yellow and is very durable

Hempen plastics are biodegradable, Their by-products during hemp plastic production are 40% less harmful than DuPont plastics. Henry Ford’s first Model-T was built to run on hemp gasoline and the panels of the car were made of hemp plastics(Popular Mechanics, 1941)

The seeds contain one of the highest sources of protein in nature. ALSO: They have two essential fatty acids that clean your body of cholesterol

Hemp clothing is extremely strong and durable over time and it has more to do with the fibre structure which is very unique than any other fibres producing plants.

Hemp cultivation and production do not harm the environment. The USDA Bulletin #404 concluded that hemp produces 4 times as much pulp with at least 4 to 7 times less pollution.(Popular Mechanics, Feb. 1938)

The AMA(American Medical Association) understood Hemp to be a MEDICINE found in numerous healing products sold over hundreds of years.

Quality paints and varnishes were made from hemp seed oil until 1937. 58,000 tons of hemp seeds were used in America for paint products in 1935

For thousands of years, 90% of all ships’ sails and rope were made from hemp.

9. 80% of all textiles, fabrics, clothes, linen, drapes, bed sheets, etc. were made from hemp until the 1820s

Mechanical Engineering Magazine (Feb. 1938) published an article entitled ‘The Most Profitable and Desirable Crop that Can be Grown.’ It stated that if hemp was cultivated using 20th Century technology, it would be the single largest agricultural crop in the U.S. and the rest of the world

If you are still wondering why Hemp has not taken over the world, Hemp is another name for “Marijuana” or Cannabis* which is banned all over the world.

The conspiracy behind why it was banned, is another Useless fact for some other day.
Mohan Rao.

PS: Cannabis is the Dutch word for Canvas and this explains why ship sails were made of hemp.

What is Sudoku?

Sudoku is a logic-based number-placement puzzle. The objective is to fill a 9×9 grid so that each column, each row, and each of the nine 3×3 boxes (also called blocks or regions) contains the digits from 1 to 9 only one time each. The puzzle setter provides a partially completed grid. The name Sudoku is short for “Sūji wa dokushin ni kagiru“, meaning “the numbers must be single”, or “the numbers must occur only once”.

First popular thing close to Sudoku

Number puzzles first appeared in newspapers in the late 19th century, when French puzzle setters began experimenting with removing numbers from magic squares. Le Siècle, a Paris-based daily, published a partially completed 9×9 magic square with 3×3 sub-squares in 1892.It was not a Sudoku because it contained double-digit numbers and required arithmetic rather than logic to solve, but it shared key characteristics: each row, column and sub-square added up to the same number.

Within three years Le Siècle’s rival, La France, refined the puzzle so that it was almost a modern Sudoku. It simplified the 9×9 magic square puzzle so that each row and column contained only the numbers 1-9, but did not mark the sub-squares. Although they are unmarked, each 3×3 sub-square does indeed comprise the numbers 1-9. However, the puzzle cannot be considered the first Sudoku because, under modern rules, it has two solutions. The puzzle setter ensured a unique solution by requiring 1-9 to appear in both diagonals. These weekly puzzles were a feature of newspaper titles including L’Echo de Paris for about a decade but disappeared about the time of the First World War.

The modern Sudoku

The modern Sudoku was most likely designed anonymously by Howard Garns, a 74-year-old retired architect and freelance puzzle constructor from Indiana, and first published in 1979 by Dell Magazines as Number Place (the earliest known examples of modern Sudoku). Garns’s name was always present on the list of contributors in issues of Dell Pencil Puzzles and Word Games that included Number Place, and was always absent from issues that did not. He died in 1989 before getting a chance to see his creation as a worldwide phenomenon

The name Sudoku

The puzzle was introduced in Japan by Nikoli in the paper Monthly Nikolist in April 1984 as Suuji wa dokushin ni kagiru which can be translated as “the digits must be single” or “the digits are limited to one occurrence.” At a later date, the name was abbreviated to Sudoku by Maki Kaji. The name has since become a trademark of puzzle publisher Nikoli Co. Ltd. in Japan.

Mohan Rao.

What a brilliant idea! I was so impatient to write this review that I am publishing this post without even researching deeper in to the way Kosmix.com works. Go, search there about anything, and it generates a page for you. Yes, a page with contents extracted from over the internet, which is not only the rich in quality, but also exhaustive and categorized in to most of what we could be searching for. And now the killer specialty about kosmix.com is that the pages that Kosmix generates for user search is index-able by Google! Don’t believe? Check this: google search

Can you imagine that? The consequences of google indexing its own killer competitor? Google ranks those pages high in its search results which are information rich. Kosmix.com compiles is an auto generated content, but quite relevant, and quite informative. That means, its likely that Google will rank the kosmix.com generated pages high in its search engine. And once a user reaches kosmix.com, probably he won’t return back to google again.

In other words, Google, if it doesn’t block Kosmix.com from its index, will be giving free advertisement and promotion to its own rival. Imagine a politician voting for his own oponent, and leading his followers too to vote for his opponent, but the opponent welcomes and keeps all those who come from wherever they be! That’s how Google and Kosmix are going to relate to each other.

Well done Anand Rajaraman and Venky Harinarayan!!(Founders of Kosmix.com) Its a killer idea. And I am sure, its going to rock! Yeah, I am unfairly proud about this, probably because the masterminds behind this grand idea are Indians. See, its fair to be a bit unfair for the sake of patriotism

Google, if you want to survive, go ahead and buy the smart guys behind Kosmix.com, or outsmart them by even a better innovation. Or if none is possible, get a bit unfair, and block the Kosmix.com pages from appearing in your search results. Good luck, both to Google as well as Kosmix.com.
